Designed by the French graphic artist Michel Quarez to celebrate the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France. The title refers to Saint-Denis, the suburb of Paris where the newly built Stade de France hosted the World Cup final. Quarez depicts a footballer in his characteristic naïve, childlike style, using bold colours, simple shapes and playful brushwork to capture the joy and spontaneity of football.
Created in 1998, the poster reflects the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the tournament, which culminated in France winning their first World Cup on home soil. Like many of Quarez’s works, the design blends fine art and poster graphics, favouring expressive painting over traditional commercial illustration.
