Cognac Monnet was founded in 1838 by Jean-Gabriel Monnet in Cognac, France. The house became well known for its smooth, fruity style and the slogan 'Cognac du soleil' ('Cognac of the sun'), reinforced by striking 1920s poster campaigns.

Jean Monnet, the founder’s son, later gained fame as a key architect of the European Union. Today, Monnet remains an active brand under the H. Mounier group, producing a full range of Cognacs (VS, VSOP, XO, and prestige bottlings) for international markets.
