Victor Brauner is a Romanian surrealist artist who based his practice out of Paris. His oeuvre includes painting, drawing and printmaking which often referenced symbolism derived from Tarot Cards, Egyptian hieroglyphics and ancient Mexican texts. Brauner explained all his artworks to be autobiographical in some way. His work was widely celebrated, leading him to represent France at the Venice Biennale in 1966.
