Gruau was a fashion illustrator whose most notable works span from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. His work was one of the major factors in changing the fashion industry, working with high-end fashion magazines induced stimulation of the economy through advertising. Gruau's works are still highly sought after and select images are on display in various museums and galleries including The Louvre. Designers such as Hubert de Givenchy, Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain all commissioned his work, and saw his ability to breathe new life into haute couture. He was first published at the tender age of fourteen, and by the time he was eighteen he had worked for various publications, including Elle, Harpers' Bazaar and L'Officiel.
